Frequently asked questions

01 What is an IP address, and why can every website see it? +

An IP address is what your provider assigns to your connection — a street number on the internet. Every page you open has to know it to send data back to the right place. That is how the internet works, not a security hole.

02 What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6? +

IPv4 looks like four groups of numbers, such as 113.161.20.5, and the world has nearly run out of them. IPv6 is longer, written in hexadecimal separated by colons, with a pool that will not realistically run out. Many providers issue both, so you may see IPv6 on mobile data and IPv4 on wifi.

03 Why does my IP change between visits? +

Most home connections use dynamic addressing: the provider hands out a different address when your router restarts or after a set period. Using a VPN, switching from wifi to mobile data, or working from a café all give you a different IP too.

04 Why does this tool not show my provider or city? +

Because resolving a provider or location means looking the IP up in a GeoIP database — which means sending your IP to a third party. We chose not to. This tool only reports what our own server can see.

05 Does MIMA Digi store my IP? +

No. The endpoint answers and forgets: nothing is logged, and the response is marked no-store so no cache layer keeps a copy.
